WhatsApp Payment services to launch in India after Brazil
WhatsApp Payment is based on the National Payments Corporation of India’s (NCPI) Unified Payments Interface (UPI). Unlike Paytm, which also has a wallet for people to store money and unlike Google Pay that lets users make payments of bills, buy gold and more, WhatsApp Payment is dedicated only for peer to peer payments. For WhatsApp Payment, the instant messaging platform has partnered with some major banks in India like ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, Axis Bank, and State Bank of India.
After Brazil suspends the newly launch WhatsApp payment service to “preserve the competitive environment” just after a week of its launch, the Facebook-owned messaging platform said it is committed to launching the digital payment service in India, a process that has been in the works since over two years now.
Is Whatsapp payment available in India?
On February 7, 2020, the messaging app received NPCI’s approval to roll out its digital payment service in a phased manner. The approval comes after nearly two years of WhatsApp holding an invitation-only trial run for the in-app payments service in India and follows the Reserve Bank of India (RBI)’s approval for the app that reports recently.
However, the catches are that not all the people have received the payment feature in their apps as yet. The people who have signed up for the WhatsApp beta testing program have already got the payment feature in their apps(Note that: For instance, Beta testing this feature is only available to a limited number of people in India.). If you haven’t signed up as a WhatsApp beta tester, you might need to wait for a while before you get the feature in the app.
To check if you have got the payments to feature in WhatsApp all you need to do is open the app -> click on the settings -> then in the setting menu find the payment option. If you find the payment option, your app is payment enable. However, if you don’t see it, you might need to wait for a little while.
How to set up WhatsApp Payment:
- Open WhatsApp on your device.
