iPhone 12 Manufacturing In India will be Started soon
Apple is beginning to assemble the iPhone 12 in India as it ramps up its production capacity in the world’s second-largest smartphone market. Foxconn, a contract manufacturing partner of Apple, is assembling the iPhone 12 model — though currently no other iPhone 12 model — Pro and Pro Max, and Mini — in the country.
The tech giant, which started manufacturing iPhones in India in 2017, has been shifting some of its production from China to India.
Currently, the company manufactures the iPhone SE (2020), the iPhone XR, and iPhone 11 in India, through its contract manufacturing partners, Foxconn and Wistron. The company is only going to make the iPhone 12 models here at the moment, with the Pro models of the device being imported from China.
“Apple is dedicated to making the best products and services in the world to delight our customers. We are proud to be starting production of iPhone 12 in India for our local customers,” said an Apple spokesperson in India in a statement.
Where will iPhone 12 in India be manufactured?
The iPhone 12 will be manufacture at Taiwanese manufacturer Foxconn’s facility in Tamil Nadu. The unit already manufactures the iPhone 11 and iPhone XR.
The Indian government has reportedly approved a proposal of about $1 billion to push local manufacturing, including cashback of 1% to 4% to manufacturers.
With such stimuli to local plants, Apple is expected to invest more than INR2,9 billion and its partner Wistron to double its employees at the Naraspura plant from 1,000 to 2,000.
