17 Malware Infected Apps Banned By Google on Playstore

Google is very conern with Privacy. Google always analyse and remove all malware-infected apps from Play Store. Google Play Store has just removed a set of 17 malware-infected apps. Out of these 17 apps, the first lot of 11 apps are infected with a malware called Joker.

Between July and the second week of September, Google has pulled off 17 apps from the Play Store for being infected with malware. The first lot of 11 apps were banned in July this year followed by six more just a couple of days ago. All of these 17 apps are no longer on the Google Play Store and cannot be downloaded.

Here are the list of dangerous apps on google play store:

  • com.file.recovefiles
  • com.training.memorygame
  • Push Message- Texting & SMS
  • Fingertip GameBox
  • com.contact.withme.texts
  • com.cheery.message.sendsms (two different instances)
  • com.LPlocker.lockapps
  • Safety AppLock
  • Emoji Wallpaper
  • com.hmvoice.friendsms
  • com.peason.lovinglovemessage
  • com.remindme.alram
  • Convenient Scanner 2
  • Separate Doc Scanner

These 17 apps are no longer on the Play Store and if you have any of these on your smartphone you need to delete them right now.

Researchers from Check Point discovered the 11 apps in July this year that were infected by the malware, Google had been tracking these apps since 2017, according to reports. According to cybersecurity firm Pradeo, six more apps were found infected by the malware.

These six apps have almost 2 lakh downloads before they were pulled off the App Store. Google has been tracking these apps since 2017. These applications seem legitimate but the malware in them has an ability to sneak files into user’s device.

Joker malware

The Joker malware steals money from users by subscribing them to paid subscriptions without their consent. It first simulates interaction with ads without users’ knowledge and then steals the victim’s SMS messages including OTP to authenticate payments.

This Joker malware that’s infected these apps is a malicious bot that has been categorised as fleeceware. The main task of this type of malware is to simulate clicks and intercept SMS’ to subscribe to unwanted paid premium services without the users learning about it. Joker uses as little code as possible and thoroughly hides it to generate a very discreet footprint that is tricky to detect.
